Jay Downhour is the Owner and Operator of JDPMX which is located in Logan, OH. He started the business in 2009 offering suspension services and had the opportunity to help some great riders immediately. Throughout the years, he has expanded his business from a part-time gig while firefighting on the side to now operating a full race shop offering suspension, motors and all shop services. From basic suspension services to highly advanced suspension and engine services from basic rebuilds to complete race engines, he now has a thriving shop.

Jay explained, “When I started my business, I found that I had a huge passion in what I did because I really enjoyed seeing the difference I was able to make for the riders. Since then, I have grown and now have hired a full-time worker, Kyle, who shares the same passion for helping riders, as well. There are several riders that rely on us week to week to get their bikes ready to race…if it has wheels and goes in the dirt, we can handle it!”

Jay’s favorite part of owning a business in the racing industry is the interaction with the racing community. He also enjoys the fun he has at races with his family and friends. “I love what I do,” said Jay. “If not, I wouldn’t do it!”

Jay has a daughter who loves the races and a wife who supports his racing and his business. “In the next few weeks, we have a new Downhour entering the world and I can only imagine what it will be like!”

WEXCR Round 6 is a special race for a few reasons. First, it’s Jay’s birthday! Secondly, he is has loved working with WEXCR Owner Tim Wood and is beyond excited to be a part of the series. He said, “The whole crew has been so welcoming and awesome to be around. I am really proud to be a sponsor of a race.”

Jay races in the A-Lites Class. He is currently 3rd in points and 21 points from first place and says he’s struggled balancing his business and racing this year. “I have about two hours I can spend riding on Sunday,” he explained. “At this point, I’m just riding out of shape and trying to be smart out there. My bike is amazing this year, though – the new YZ250FX is a lot of fun and I enjoy being on the track on a Yamaha.”

This year, Jay has a goal to win some races. He said, “Dakota Sims is riding really well this year along with Garrett Coe and Chris Montgomery. It’s just been a lot of fun and I hope to eventually ride up to my full potential.”

Jay would like to thank his family and friends for their support and for the good times. Also, he would like to thank Tim and the entire WEXCR Crew for providing the best off-road series possible for the local guys. His sponsors are Lancaster and Athens Sport Cycles. JDPMX has provided him the resources and products to have the best stuff out there for his racing. Additionally, Shriver’s Pharmacy, Formation Cementing, MSR, Gaerne, Five Six O Graphics and Dr. Steve Thaxton for helping him with his aches and pains.
