Jayce Knopp Wrecks, Goes to Hospital and Returns to Watch WEXCR Adult Classes During Round 5

Jayce Knopp rides the Youth Super Class for WEXCR and at Round 5 at Constitution Ridge, he was running in third place during the first lap. The two riders in first and second place came together and Jayce went down trying to miss them.

“I fell back to about 12th or so,” he explained, “but I was back to 4th on the second lap.”

He was riding hard and caught a root with his back tire which threw him off the bike. He landed on his head and left shoulder.

“I tried to get my bike up, but realized I was hurt,” he said. With blurry vision, dizziness and unable to move his arm, he sat down and waited for a track sweeper.

“The track sweepers came pretty quickly and took me to the emergency squad on a four-wheeler. The other rode my bike out and took it back to the trailer for me,” he said.

Once at the hospital, he was started on an IV, received some pain medicine and had an x-ray. His final diagnosis was a broken left collar bone and a concussion.

After his trip to the hospital, Jayce surprised everyone! “I found out they were running a little behind and we could make it back in time. I was supposed to race the Adult Bike C 13-19 Class on my dad’s 450 and had some buddies that were racing, so I wanted to be there to see how everyone did. I love racing, so I just wanted to be there in general.” Jayce went back to the race, cheered on his friends and watched his favorite sport after a very hard day!

Jayce isn’t supposed to race for 6 weeks from the time of the injury, but he has hopes that he will be back as soon as possible. “Even if I can’t go hard,” he said, “I still want to try to get some points.”

On behalf of all of your WEXCR Family, we wish you a speedy recovery, Jayce!
